This photograph has been painted as a true fresco into wet lime plaster on a wall, then the wall has aged. The two people remain those two people, standing where they stood. Pigment is mineral: earth reds, soot black, a chalky sky. Plaster has flaked in places so the scratch coat shows — never across both faces at once.
The original setting becomes architecture in plaster: the same horizon, the same masses, cracked. A little pigment dust on the ledge at the bottom of the frame.
Raking daylight in a ruined room. Not a Renaissance masterpiece of different saints, not a mural of celebrities, not a photo with a crack overlay.
