How this works
Adds colour to a black and white photograph.
Every colour it chooses is a guess. A monochrome negative does not record hue, so the model is inferring from material and period — plausibly, and sometimes wrongly. If you know what colour something was, say so and it will be followed rather than guessed at.
Colour is kept restrained and plausible for the period, and every tone keeps its relative brightness, so the picture does not quietly gain contrast it never had. Nothing is sharpened, no detail is added and faces are left alone — a colourisation that redraws the subject is not a colourisation.
